The roof plans for my house have by far been the simplest part of the residential construction designing process. They consist of walls below, and roof lines. In this unit we use the same process as we did to make the foundation plans; of course you don’t necessarily use the same layers, but you go to the floor plans and lock everything except for the wall studs, porch, and patio layers. Then you will select the whole floor plan and copy it over to the section to draw the roof plans. Other than learning that this was the process to create the roof plans, there were not any true new skills that I learned in this unit. It was a fairly easy unit that I finished in one day. The real world application here would be to show how to design and build the roof of a residence. This is a necessary tool in the industry because not only do you need a roof for a residence or building, but you also need to know how far, high, and wide you need to build the roof.
